The God @ IITD

Beginning of the new semester was marked by a hectic, yet interesting week. The 8 am class will surely pinch in the time to come, especially since the professor speaks as though he is singing a ballad, as a result of which, sleep starts to take over in a few minutes. The next lecture, one of a strict disciplinarian, rejuvenates the mind thoroughly. But some of his policies like using-the right-hand for all the tasks seem pre-historic and are something to laugh about after the class! Though not exactly after the class, coz that's the time to run, to the top floor. Five minutes late to the class and you'll be locked out. A few lucky ones use the elevator (I got it 2 out of 3 times in the first week), while the majority has to toil on the stairs. Some among this majority choose to take revenge then itself, by pressing the lift button on every floor they cross.
The first week has also been full of birthday and other treats. 4 out of 7 days have included a visit to the Nescafe. I am hoping the good spell continues (although 2 of these treats resulted in me getting bumps, but it was completely worth it).
Oh...and something I will remember forever, the class with J.K. Chatterjee (HoD of the electrical department). There seems to be something wrong with him, his actions are nowhere close to what can be called normal human behaviour. It is as though he is standing on this mountain of superiority and we are nothing more than tiny specks of dust under his feet (directly quoted from his never ending speech!). He spent all his time trying to convince us that until we became learned scholars like him, we did not have the right to laugh at his jokes (some of them real terrible) or pass a smile while talking to him. Its not that this was the first time I had interacted with him. The last time I met him he had convinced us (there was a group of students he was talking to, about Mahabharata!) that he was The God himself and had been sent to this earth to enlightent the humans. This time however, he went a step further. Not only was he making witty and contemptuos remarks about the students, he didn't leave his colleagues either. He constantly put us in a tough position asking whether or not he was the best teacher we had ever encountered. Well, surely he wasn't the most modest ! At the end of the 3.5 hour literal 'ragging', (the class was not supposed to run longer than 2 hours by the way) we were completely flushed out of our senses, and he proudly walked away as is he had conquered yet another group of students. Taking a deeper look at his actions however, I realised all he tries to do is create a passion for learning inside us. Coz for the little time he actually taught, each one was genuinely attentive and he seemed to be teaching well too. However, the only problem is that he always goes to the extremes, trying to make his point. Nevertheless, I am sure this semester will not turn boring at any time, thanks to him.
